Revitalized Medvedev Claims First Trophy in Nearly 30 Months
Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden championship for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a challenging season, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-time trainer his previous coach.
Now training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.
This marks his maiden championship after the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.
Victory also indicates he has secured twenty-one championships at 21 different events.
"It's the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to secure a title is particularly special," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his past six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular outbursts on court had prompted observers to doubt if his capacity to play at the top level was finished.
But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and perform aggressively, supported by an enhanced serving game.
The champion fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, securing 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.
The competitors swapped break points in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his initial ATP Tour title, took control to create a final set.
Moutet defended 4 early-game opportunities in a close final set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the net area, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
